According to our sources, the Cannonlake CPUs will integrate the FIVR again. Introduced with the Haswell CPUs as the best innovation of the year, the FIVR has been abandoned in the Skylake CPUs.

This happened in order to simplify the design of the CPUs and to push higher the frequencies despite the poor quality of the 14nm 3D-Gate node (also the FIVR is an obstacle for the overclockers).

However, because Cannonlake will be an advanced version of Skylake/Kabylake (strategy of Tick-Tock-Tock), Intel will be able to reinsert the FIVR in these CPUs without problems.
