L’IMC DDR4 di Zen potrebbe essere di Rambus Technology, e non da Synopsys come precedentemente supposto.
Le nostre fonti, contrariamente a quanto si afferma oggi, ci avevano parlato di un IMC in grado di supportare senza problemi DDR4 fino alla frequenza di 3200 MHz (3600 MHz attraverso i profili AMP), ed il nuovo IMC di Rambus le supporta pienamente. Altro fattore che ci porta a pensare che AMD abbia deciso di utilizzare l’IMC di Rambus, è il fatto che questo abbia recentemente ricevuto la certificazione per essere prodotto con il nodo 14LPP di GlobalFoundries, lo stesso che verrà utilizzato da AMD per produrre Zen: “Together with GLOBALFOUNDRIES, we have been able to develop the industry’s first DDR4 PHY on a 14nm LPP process running at 3200 Mbps and capable of achieving the performance requirements of next-generation systems […] GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ FX-14™ platform, based on our advanced 14nm LPP technology, is designed to support the memory intensive computing tasks in today’s most demanding enterprise applications”.
In ultimo, proprio recentemente AMD e Rambus hanno rinnovato l'accordo per prolungare la propria collaborazione.
