AMD ha rilasciato i driver Catalyst 12.8 WHQL, i primi dotati di certificazione unificata per Window Vista, Windows 7 e Windows 8.

I driver introducono la nuova tecnica di rendering TIR (Target-Independent Rasterization) per migliorare l' anti-aliasing nelle applicazioni Direct3D ed implementano un'ottimizzazione per il consumo energetico delle GPU Radeon HD 5000, 6000 e 7000 il IDLE/LOAD. Tra le feature esclusive per Windows 8 troviamo il supporto nativo stereo 3D l'integrazione della riproduzione video via API DirectX 11.

Riproposte e migliorate in questa versione le varie ottimizzazioni prestazionali con i titoli più recenti viste nei Catalyst 12.7 Beta: +25% in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, +10% in Dirt 3, +6% in Batman: Arkham City e +3% in Battlefield 3.
