The Developer Edition uses 2x1200x1080 pixels 90Hz screens by HTC, specifically modified to eliminate the jittering effect and to play photo-realistic images on a 360° FoV.

Valve and HTC state that VIVE is the first VR headset able to offer a fully immersive experience and interaction with the environment thanks to the integration of a gyroscope, an accelerometer, a position sensor that traces the movements of our head with extreme precision (1/10 grade) and the combination with the SteamVR base station, that tracks our physical location and calculates the space available to move inside the room without using a joystick or other controllers.

VIVE is built on lightweight materials and it is comfortable to be worn for a long time without any contraindication. The Developer Edition uses external headphones, while the final version will have an integrated headset.

It's also planned to build a series of optional wireless controllers (gloves, weapons, platforms etc.) to fully manipulate virtual objects.
