Le console next-gen messe già alla frusta da The Witcher 3

Avevamo già avuto un'avvisaglia da DICE, che un paio di settimane fa aveva parlato di un Battlefield 4 spinto in upscaling da 720p su Xbox One e PlayStation 4 per tenere i 60fps (salvo poi correggere il tiro accennando ad una soluzione ancora non definitiva), ma a gettare altra benzina sul fuoco ci pensa Marek Ziemak di CD Projekt RED.

In un'intervista pubblicata su vg247, il gameplay producer del talentuoso team polacco afferma che con lo sviluppo di The Witcher 3 sono già arrivati a sfruttare quasi al limite l'hardware di PS4 e XB1:

At this point, we’re advanced in testing, running and experimenting with next-gen platforms, and at this point we know the game is pretty demanding. Of course, we still have the authorization phase in front of us, but because of size and density, we are already close to maxing out the equipment [...] if we find more workforce in boxes, we will surely use it to make the game even better. I think others share the same opinion as us, if there’s power to be used then why not use it all?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt utilizzerà il REDengine 3, un nuovo motore grafico sviluppato internamente da CD Projekt RED. Per mantenere un buon dettaglio grafico lo sviluppatore polacco è stato costretto a bloccare il frame rate a 30 su PS4 e BX1 (ovviamente la versione PC non avrà questo limite).

Va detto che The Witcher 3 si preannuncia con un RPG immenso, con un mondo di gioco grande 35 volte quello di The Witcher 2, e che il REDengine 3 non ha nulla da invidiare ai vari Frostbite 3 / CryEngine 3 / Unreal Engine 4, anzi sotto alcuni aspetti tecnici (effetti post-processing, animazioni e gestione della tessellation) sembra addirittura superiore.

There’s a pretty huge diversity. The world is around 35x bigger than Witcher 2 and each location is different. We’re putting effort into creating unique elements in this world and producing various points of interest. We believe these things make a world more attractive and interesting. There are a few different kingdoms or relics you can visit as you travel through the game. All of them are connected and part of one coherent experience.

The Witcher 3 uscirà nel 2014 su PC, PlayStation 4 e Xbox One.
