According to the current public documentation, the GPU of the new Intel "Skylake" CPUs should be a Tier 2 on resource binding and provide support for feature level 12.0. This means that the 9th Generation of Intel GPUs will provide a better experience than some recent NVIDIA GPUs, like Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell 1.0. Also, a big improvement over Broadwell and Haswell GPUs.

This is a big surprise, because a “Skylake” Core i7 equipped with EDRAM could be better than a present low or low-mid level GPU of NVIDIA and AMD in video games. Will it be the dead of the low-end and mid-end discrete GPU markets? If the Intel's drivers will improve (and we hope so), it will be probable.

• Tier 1: INTEL Haswell e Broadwell, NVIDIA Fermi
• Tier 2: NVIDIA Kepler, Maxwell 1.0 and Maxwell 2.0, Skylake
• Tier 3: AMD GCN 1.0, GCN 1.1 and GCN 1.2

• Feature level 11.0: NVIDIA Fermi, Kepler, Maxwell 1.0
• Feature level 11.1: AMD GCN 1.0, INTEL Haswell and Broadwell
• Feature level 12.0: AMD GCN 1.1 and GCN 1.2, Skylake
• Feature level 12.1: NVIDIA Maxwell 2.0

During the next year we will see the “Skylake” CPU with EDRAM, while in 2017 we will see the first APU based on Zen with HBM Memory. Hard times incoming for NVIDIA and, maybe, AMD?
