I colleghi di TomsHardware in primis hanno confermato che la pasta tra Die ed IHS ha sicuramente un impatto negativo sulle temperature, rispetto all’utilizzo della saldatura: “One reason for the cooling problem is Intel's use of inadequate (but arguably much cheaper) thermal paste instead of indium-based solder”. Inoltre, la pasta, al contrario di quello che si dice, può avere un degrado piuttosto veloce ed imprevedibile: “Moreover, thermal pastes have their own long-term stability issues. Over time, the oils in these materials separate from the solids, introducing air gaps between the surfaces and increasing thermal resistance. This effect is different in all pastes, but it can't be prevented completely”.
The dissipation of waste heat is hindered by the CPU's construction and Intel's deliberate decision to use thermal paste between the heat spreader and die. Regardless of how much pressure you use or how cold you can get your heat sink, you'll never realize Skylake-X's potential the way it's currently configured. Intel applies a thermal brake, favoring longevity and sacrificing performance”.
The 4 GHz configuration consumes 145W for a score of 2169, while every core running at 4.3 GHz via "Enhanced Turbo" hits 190W for a modest jump to 2312 points. That's worrisome. You get a 6.6% performance benefit from 7.5%-higher clock rates at a cost of 31% more power consumption. Talk about a poor bang for your power/heat/cooling buck”.
In ultimo, si conclude affermando che l’i9-7900X è una CPU adatta a sistemi di dissipazione a liquido anche a frequenze default, in quanto sebbene durante i giochi la CPU consumi circa 100W, durante i carichi di lavoro “seri” si possono raggiungere picchi di 200W (Con le SIMD AVX in uso anche di più!): “Depending on whether you use the Enhanced Turbo option or not, power consumption in excess of 230W (in AVX-heavy workloads) or as high as 200W (without AVX) is possible right out of the box. That's no longer in the realm of air cooling. You need a good closed-loop liquid cooler at minimum. Even that's going to hit its limit, though, since the core temperatures peak at close to the point where thermal throttling begins”.
