AMD ha rilasciato una versione aggiornata dei propri driver Radeon Crimson Edition. Giunti alla release 16.8.1, i nuovi driver contengono in supporto alle schede video RX 470 e RX 460 introdotte in questi giorni dalla casa di Sunnyvale.

In aggiunta troviamo un nuovo profilo CF per F1 2016 ed una serie di fix (è stata riabilitata la possibilità di overcloccare le memorie video della RX 480 4GB oltre i 7200MHz tramite il pannello Wattman).

AMD ha reso disponibile un nuovo aggiornamento driver per le proprie schede video della famiglia Radeon basate su architettura GCN. I nuovi driver Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.3 implementano alcune nuove ottimizzazioni specifiche per il gioco Rise of the Tomb Raider, grazie alle quali viene dichiarato un aumento delle prestazioni del 10% per le schede della famiglia Radeon RX 480.

Con la nostra scheda video Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ 4GB abbiamo effettivamente constatato un incremento prestazionale in modalità di rendering DirectX 12 sia nel benchmark integrato (+12%) sia in-game (+11%). I test sono stati eseguiti alla risoluzione di 1080p con il preset "High".

A dieci giorni dall'uscita dei Crimson 16.7.2 AMD ripropone lo stesso pacchetto driver ma questa volta aggiornato con la certificazione WHQL di Microsoft. I driver sono compatibili con tutte le GPU della famiglia Radeon basate su architettura GCN ed implementano il supporto alle API Vulkan in DooM.

Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 Highlights

  • The “compatibility mode” UI toggle was designed to reduce total power with minimal performance impact on AMD Radeon™ RX480 reference boards and has been made available to users in the Global Settings menu of Radeon Settings (first introduced in the previous Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 driver). This toggle is in “off” by default.
  • Support for DOOM (with Vulkan API) – enables performance enhancements through support for Async Compute and Shader Intrinsics.

  • These drivers are now Microsoft WHQL certified

Fixed Issues

  • In the previous Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 driver the “Restore Factory Defaults” option under Preferences of Radeon Settings Software would not set the “Compatibility Mode” UI toggle to its default “OFF” value. This is fixed in the Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 driver. The “Restore Factory Defaults” options resets all Radeon Settings to their factory default values.

Known Issues

  • A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if the AMD Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved “In Game Overlay”.

3DMark-Time-Spy-cbFuturemark ha rilasciato il 3DMark Time Spy, il nuovo benchmark DirectX 12 realizzato in collaborazione con AMD, Intel, Microsoft e Nvidia.

Time Spy sfrutta un motore creato in-house basato su D3D12 feature level 11_0 ("This lets Time Spy leverage the most significant performance benefits of the DirectX 12 API while ensuring wide compatibility with DirectX 11 hardware through DirectX 12 drivers" Futuremark) con supporto all'Asynchronous Compute, all'Explicit multi-adapter e al Multi-threading. Si compone di due test grafici per la GPU più uno dedicato alla CPU.

La versione Basic di Time Spy è gratuita (sul sito di Futuremark o su Steam) ma se si vogliono sbloccare tutte le opzioni occorre acquistare il pacchetto di upgrade a 9.99 Euro (per gli attuali possessori del 3Dmark c'è uno sconto del 50% fino al 23 luglio).

AMD ha reso disponibile un nuovo aggiornamento dei driver Crimson per le schede video della famiglia Radeon basate su architettura GCN. Parliamo della release 16.7.2 disponibile per il download a questo indirizzo.

I driver introducono incrementi prestazionali in DooM grazie al supporto all'Asynchronous Compute e alle Shader Intrinsic Functions via API Vulkan. Ricordiamo che l'Asynchronous Compute riduce i tempi di rendering grazie ad una migliore distribuzione delle operazioni sulle code di elaborazione, mentre l'SIF fornisce un accesso diretto all'hardware per sfruttare al meglio le risorse delle GPU.

Grazie ai nuovi driver AMD parla di un incremento prestazionale del 27% in DooM alla risoluzione di 1080p con la scheda video Radeon RX 480 rispetto al rendering OGL e del 23% a 1440p:

Attualmente l'Asynchronous Compute è ottimizzato per le GPU AMD (GCN2 in poi) per DooM renderizzato via API Vulkan ma Bethesda ha fatto sapere che è al lavoro con Nvidia per poter abilitarlo almeno sulle GPU Pascal.

Dopo l' anteprima mostrata alla GDC 2016 a marzo - lo Unity Demo Team ha riproposto l'interessante tech-demo Adam, questa volta in versione integrale, durante l'evento Unite '16 Europe di Amsterdam lo scorso mese.

La demo sfrutta l'ultima versione beta del motore grafico Unity 5.4 è stata renderizzata in real-time alla risoluzione di 1440p con una GPU GeForce GTX 980.

Adam also utilizes an experimental implementation of real-time area lights and makes extensive use of high fidelity physics simulation tool CaronteFX, which you can get from the Unity Asset Store right now.

To make Adam, the Demo Team developed custom tools and features on top of Unity including volumetric fog, a transparency shader and motion blur to cover specific production needs. We’ll make these freely available soon!

AMD ha rilasciato i driver Crimson 16.7.1 con l'obiettivo di ribilanciare la distribuzione degli assorbimenti energetici tra il bus PCIe e il connettore MiniFit Jr 6-pin della scheda video Radeon RX 480 reference.

La casa di Sunnyvale ha anche inserimento una nuova funzione denominata "Compatibility mode" nelle opzioni Global Settings del pannello Radeon Settings che, una volta attivata, riduce i consumi totali della scheda a fronte di un piccolissimo impatto prestazionale. Con la "Compatibility mode" disattivata, invece, le performance aumentano del 3% rispetto ai precedenti driver Crimson 16.6.2.

I Crimson 16.7.1 sono accompagnati da vari fix, sempre per la RX 480: incremento della bandwidth dell'interfaccia PCIe, correzione delle immagini in Doom e HITMAN, riduzione dello stuttering in GTA5 e del flickering con il Freesync attivato.

Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 Highlights

  • The Radeon™ RX 480’s power distribution has been improved for AMD reference boards, lowering the current drawn from the PCIe bus.
  • A new “compatibility mode” UI toggle has been made available in the Global Settings menu of Radeon Settings. This option is designed to reduce total power with minimal performance impact if end users experience any further issues. This toggle is “off” by default.
  • Performance improvements for the Polaris architecture that yield performance uplifts in popular game titles of up to 3% [1]. These optimizations are designed to improve the performance of the Radeon™ RX 480, and should substantially offset the performance impact for users who choose to activate the "compatibility" toggle.

Fixed Issues

  • Radeon™ RX 480 limited PCI-E Bandwidth (PCI-E bandwidth is now at the correct speed on the Radeon™ RX 480) with Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1.
  • Minor stuttering no longer occurs in Grand Theft Auto V on Radeon™ RX 480 with Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1.
  • Video corruption will not be observed in DOOM with resolutions above 1920x1080 with Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1.
  • Hitman™ graphical corruption no longer occurs when the game is set to use DirectX®12 API and using zoom with weapons with Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1.
  • Display will not exhibit minor flicker on Radeon™ RX 480 when Freesync is enabled on a games launch or exit with Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1.

Known Issues

  • A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if the AMD Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved "In Game Overlay".
  • Radeon™ Pro Duo may experience a black screen in Total War™: Warhammer with the games API set to DirectX®12 and V-Sync enabled.
  • DiRT™ Rally may experience flickering terrain in some races when the advanced blending option is enabled in the games settings page.
  • Some Overdrive settings may not appear in Radeon Settings for Radeon™ Fury X when in AMD Crossfire mode.
  • Dota™2 may crash when using the Vulkan™ API and the user changes resolutions or quality settings.
  • Battlefield™ 4 may experience crashes when using Mantle. As a work around users are suggested to switch to DirectX®11.
  • Need for Speed™ may experience flickering on some light sources in AMD Crossfire mode.
  • Frame Rate Target Control gaming profiles may fail to enable for some games.
  • Radeon Wattman may retain settings of an overclock after it has failed. If you have failed an overclock with a system hang or reboot make sure to use the "Reset" option in the Radeon WattMan settings page when the system has rebooted.
  • Low frame rate or stutter may be experienced Wolfenstein®: The Old Blood™ on Radeon™ RX 480.
  • Assassin's Creed® Syndicate may experience a game crash or hang when in game settings are set to high or greater.
  • Disabling AMD Crossfire mode on Radeon™ RX 480 may disable the device in Windows® Device Manager. A workaround is to reboot the system to re-enable the device.

Anche Nvidia ha aggiornato i driver video per le schede della famiglia GeForce con una release che contiene ottimizzazioni per Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. Il pacchetto 368.39 WHQL appartiene alla serie game ready e oltre a migliorare la compatibilità con titolo di DICE implementa il supporto per Edge of Nowhere, il nuovo survival-horror targato Insomniac Games su Oculus Rift.

Troviamo anche il supporto ufficiale per la scheda video GeForce GTX 1070 e l'atteso fix che sistema il problema del repentino cambiamento della velocità di rotazione della ventola a turbina della GTX 1080 Founder Edition.
